Military Matchups - Taiwan (ROC) versus China (PRC)
Here is a glossy Web site answering all your morbid questions about the balance of power that some Taiwanese polititians have been calling a “balance of terror.” Click the flag to visit.
Here are some more links.
Many pictures of ROC and PRC military gear here.
You can translate it crudely for free here or nicely with an free email sign-up here.
At the popular Global Security Web site, some interesting info on China’s air strike support capabilities here.
Taiwan just had a sizeable quake - a 7.0 at its epicenter which was located offshore and far underground. It felt like a 4 in Taipei, which means exciting but not scary. Well, some people get scared.
It wasn’t so serious, as you can read…
Kuo said that the quake’s power was equivalent to about 16 atomic bombs yesterday. By comparison, the 921 earthquake in 1999 was 7.3 in magnitude and similar to the power of 46 atomic bombs.

The executive summary strangely fails to notice Taiwan’s strong performance, probably due to worries about China’s reaction. Who knows when Taiwan’s stats will be added up as part of China’s. I heard that China did this with the Olympic medal count. Can that be true?
Some observations on the rankings. Taiwan moved up one spot from last year, to fourth. Singapore dropped one spot to seventh. Japan climbed from eleventh to ninth. And, drum roll please, this should please Taiwanese folks, Korea lingers way back in 29th place, down from 18th. So how can anyone say Chen is mismanaging the economy. This was the basis of the Blue coalition’s election campaign last year.
Located in the same complex as The Wall, Taipei’s new and excellent mid-sized rock venue, is White Wabbit Records, a shop/label combo, who’s sampler of last year received heavy rotation on my stereo. Here’s a link to their Web site, translated through Babelfish.

And now for something simply amazing…

Ace news source, Taipei Times, recently ran this story on a little-known invention by Pablo Planas of the Philippines. It saves gas - dramatically. And cuts pollution too. I wonder why the car companies didn’t think of it.

There’s another good report on it here.
