I wish I had the time to do this for Taipei.
The new US embassy in Baghdad will cost $1.5 billion apparently. I wonder what Taipei 101 cost. I double checked this. It’s in both of these different stories:
CBS
Washington Post
Commentary here: Mother of all Dead Time Factories
Oh. Update. Taipei101 cost US$1.6 billion. So it is a nice comparison…

Patent laws badly need to be reformed. It seems the US agency is badly underfunded. But the US imposes, or tries to impose, its patent regime on all others, so we all suffer from this blight. It is no laughing matter in the software industry, where even programmers who want to contribute to open source projects are scared off by the patent chill effect. Microsoft, for example (but all the big software players do it) has a small army of people busy patenting logical ways of doing things, programmatically speaking. Surely God would be pissed off at this. A famous example of ludicrous “intellectual property” is Amazon’s patent on “one-click shopping.”

Isn’t that cute?
Finally humans are smart enough to think of a sensible solution to the annoying problem of elephant poo. (Elephants typically produce 80 pounds of crap each day.) These Asian elephants in Thailand always flush too, and they learned the trick in just a couple of days. Try getting your genius dog to do this.

This is visually interesting. Taiwan beats Korea. Look how poor Canadians are. I wonder why they always think they have the world by the tail. ROC means Taiwan, by the way (Republic of China - Formerly known as “Free China” as opposed to “Red China”)

Here’s an interesting page quite related to the tsunami. It looks as though the chance of me being caught in that tsunami were very slim indeed.
